Ashby is the hiring system a growing share of startups use, and its application form is the newest of the common ones, which shows. One page, a resume upload that fills the contact fields, the employer's custom questions, the voluntary questions, and a submit button. No account. The differences from Greenhouse and Lever are small: the form sits on the company's own job board at jobs.ashbyhq.com/company, the autofill is quicker and slightly better, and custom questions can be any type, including file uploads and multiple choice.
Key points
- The address is
jobs.ashbyhq.com/company, or the company's own site with the Ashby form embedded. - No account, one page, one session.
- Upload the resume first. The autofill reads it and fills name, email, phone, location and links.
- Custom questions can be text, choice, file or date. Read them before you type.
- The confirmation email is the receipt. There is no portal.
The form
| Section | What it asks | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Resume | Upload, PDF or Word | The tailored copy. Upload first, so the fields fill. |
| Contact | Name, email, phone | Read after the autofill. A middle name in the wrong field is common. |
| Location | City and country, sometimes with a picker | Match the posting's limit for a remote role |
| Links | LinkedIn, GitHub, portfolio, website | The ones that matter for the role |
| Custom questions | Any type the employer added | Short answers written outside the form, choices read twice |
| Voluntary questions | Demographics | Optional, stored apart from the application |
Upload the resume first. The rest of the form is reading what it filled.
The autofill
Ashby's parse fills more than Greenhouse's: contact, location, links, and sometimes the answers to standard questions it can infer, like "are you based in the EU". Read every filled field. The parse reads a one-column resume cleanly, and the guide on ATS-friendly resumes has the rules for making sure yours is one.
If a field fills wrong, type over it. The resume file is unchanged, and the recruiter reads the file.
Custom questions
Employers on Ashby add questions of several types: a short text answer, a long one, a single choice, multiple choice, a number, a date, a file. The long text ones are letters in a box, and the guide on cover letters has the shape. The choice ones are sometimes knockout questions, so read them twice: "Are you able to work from our Berlin office three days a week?" is a question with a consequence.
Write the long answers in a text file first. The form keeps your text while the page is open and loses it on a reload.
After you submit
A confirmation email from the employer via Ashby, within minutes. No portal. The status lives with the recruiter. The guide on how long until you hear back has the timelines, and withdrawing is an email to the recruiter.
Reapplying is a new form, linked on the employer's side to your record by email.
On this site
Tailor rewrites your resume and cover letter against the posting before you open the form, so the words you paste in are the ones the posting used. When you send it, add the row in Track, with the ATS score you sent it at. We do not fill the form for you: the pledge on this site says we will not apply on your behalf.
Before you open the form
The tailored resume exported and named. The answers to the standard questions in a text file: right to work, location, start date, the salary range from the guide on salary expectations. The cover letter written, if the form asks for one, because a file question takes a PDF and a text question takes a paste. With those three ready, the form takes ten minutes, and the ten are spent reading what the autofill filled.
Reapplying
A second application to the same company is a new form, and Ashby links it to your first record by email on the employer's side. The recruiter sees both and sees the dates. Two applications to two roles that fit is normal. A second application to the same role within a month, without a change to the resume, is noise and reads as it. If the role reopens after a quarter, apply again with the tailored resume updated and the one thing changed named in the question that asks why.

Questions
Why does the company's careers page look different from jobs.ashbyhq.com?
Ashby lets the employer embed the board in their own site with their own styling. The form behind it is the same, and the address of the form reveals it.
Can I apply to two roles at once?
Each role has its own form. Apply to each. The employer sees both on one record and that is normal.
The form asks for a salary expectation as a number. What do I put?
A number from the market, not a guess. The guide on salary expectations has where it comes from, and our wages page has the median for the title and the place.
There is a file question. What is it for?
A portfolio, a writing sample, a cover letter, whatever the label says. Attach a PDF. Keep it under a few megabytes.
Does the autofill read my cover letter?
No. It reads the resume. The letter is attached as a file or pasted into a question, and read by a person.
