JOB SUMMARY This position oversees and manages the quality functions at a TTX Repair Shop Operation (RSO). Quality Assurance Supervisor provides oversight throughout the freight car repair process, from receipt of inbound cars through final inspection and release. The role ensures that incoming inspections, in-process repairs, and finished-product inspections are completed accurately, thoroughly, and on schedule in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures and Test Plans. The position provides final assurance that repaired railcars, parts, assemblies, component applications, and welding processes performed by Production personnel comply with TTX Company requirements, applicable industry standards, Association of American Railroads (AAR) requirements, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, and customer specifications. The supervisor also promotes safe work practices, supports the facility safety action plan, maintains AAR M-1003 certification requirements, and serves as a technical resource to all departments regarding material requirements, railcar supply information, quality, and cost performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the overall effectiveness and sustainability of the Quality Program, including review of the Quality Assurance Manual, execution of internal audits and management reviews, and compliance with AAR M-1003 requirements.
  • Investigate internal and external audit findings and lead the development of timely, effective responses. Provide guidance on root cause analysis and corrective action and verify that actions are implemented effectively to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure railcars with wreck-related defects are processed promptly, including submission of Joint Inspection Certificates, photographs, and estimates. Maintain and update the Wreck Status Report each week.
  • Oversee quality documentation and document-control activities at the shop level.
  • Ensure that all measuring and test equipment used to verify product quality is properly maintained and complies with applicable AAR and TTX requirements.
  • Ensure satisfactory shop performance during FRA, TTX, AAR M-1003 internal and external, TTX Corporate, and AAR Mechanical Inspection Department (MID) audits.
  • Measure and monitor internal and external defects and provide monthly quality metrics to management.
  • Provide Production personnel and the management team with immediate feedback regarding defects identified during inspection and before final railcar release.
  • Conduct Job Safety Observations (JSOs) and provide safety-awareness training and instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three years of experience in railroad inspection, railroad operations, or railcar repair.
  • Working knowledge of railcar operations and the performance of railcars and related components.
  • Knowledge of AAR specifications and guidelines, FRA requirements, and Company specifications.
  • Successful completion of the Association of American Railroads Basic Auditor Course.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, detailed business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload with minimal direct supervision.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is an on-site position with a schedule that varies by shop based on operational needs. The Mira Loma shop typically operates from 5:00 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m.; however, this role may require working until 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. depending on projects. The regular workweek is Monday through Friday, with some Friday schedule extensions and occasional Saturday work required to support production.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to manage and inspect products, read, and interpret blueprints, and observe products in operation. Because inspections and product testing may be performed at customer facilities, the employee is frequently required to communicate verbally, hear, use hands to handle or feel objects, and reach with the hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and lift or transport up to fifty pounds. Correctable vision is required for close, distance, and depth-perception tasks, as well as the ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure may include vibration, outdoor weather conditions, and work in elevated or otherwise precarious locations. The work environment is typically loud.
