Job Duties:
The Department of Chemistry at Bucknell University invites applications for a Professional Track faculty position to begin August 1, 2027. The successful candidate will teach courses in general chemistry and may contribute to other subjects depending on background, interests, and the needs of the Department. The teaching load is six courses per year with typical class sizes of around 30 students. Candidates will also be expected to participate in academic advising and University service.
The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of reappointment contingent upon satisfactory performance. Faculty members become eligible for promotion to the next rank after six years of service at their current rank. Prior equivalent service may be applied toward promotion.
Although this position will not be eligible for tenure, Bucknell values professional track colleagues as full voting members of the faculty and provides extensive resources to support their growth. This includes access to a robust Teaching & Learning Center and funding for professional development and scholarly engagement. Although there is no scholarship requirement for this position, opportunities for mentoring undergraduate research students are available.
The Department of Chemistry is committed to delivering student-centered, active educational experiences for our students within one of the nation’s foremost liberal arts universities. A strong Cell Biology/Biochemistry Program is jointly provided by faculty across the Chemistry and Biology departments. We seek candidates who are committed to creating a climate that fosters the growth and development of a diverse student body. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education.
