Title: Teacher of English (with an additional subject)
Salary: £34,069 - £46,940 per annum
Grade: MPS 1-6
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full Time
Location: Hambleton & Richmondshire Pupil Referral Service
Do you believe every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their starting point?
At Sunbeck, we are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and resilient Teacher of English who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people. Sunbeck is a Pupil Referral Service, supporting young people who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. Our pupils often arrive having experienced significant barriers to learning, disrupted education and challenges that have affected their confidence, engagement and progress. They need teachers who see beyond their circumstances, recognise their potential and are determined to help them succeed. This is an opportunity to join a team that believes in high expectations, strong relationships and a fresh start for every pupil.
You will deliver engaging, ambitious and carefully adapted lessons that help pupils rebuild their confidence, develop essential literacy skills and achieve meaningful outcomes. You will teach pupils with a wide range of abilities, needs and educational experiences, including those working to close significant gaps in their learning.
You will understand that teaching at Sunbeck is about more than delivering a curriculum. It is about creating the conditions in which young people feel safe, build positive relationships, re-engage with learning and begin to believe in what they can achieve.
Working closely with colleagues, families and partner schools, you will contribute to a consistent approach that combines nurture with clear boundaries, appropriate challenge and a relentless focus on progress.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a passion for English and a commitment to helping every pupil make progress.
- Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people who may have had difficult experiences of education.
- Delivers well-structured, engaging lessons that meet pupils where they are while maintaining high expectations.
- Understands the importance of literacy in opening doors to further education, employment and adult life.
- Is calm, resilient, adaptable and consistent in their approach to behaviour.
- Believes that every young person deserves dignity, belonging and the opportunity to succeed.
- Wants to contribute to a supportive team where staff work together to find solutions rather than give up on pupils.
Experience in alternative provision or a pupil referral setting would be valuable, but above all, we are looking for the right person with the commitment, character and teaching skills to make a difference.
Why Sunbeck?
At Sunbeck, our mission is simple: to create the conditions for every young person to belong, thrive, learn and succeed.
We want our pupils to experience a provision where they are known as individuals, treated with respect and challenged to achieve more than they thought possible. We believe that strong relationships and high standards go hand in hand, and that a pupil's past should never define their future.
You will join a team with the opportunity to shape provision, contribute ideas and help build something that makes a lasting difference to young people's lives.
If you are an English teacher, with the ability to teach an additional subject, who wants to do more than deliver lessons, who believes in second chances and who is prepared to combine compassion with ambition, we would love to hear from you.
