Amazon MemoryDB is a durable, Valkey-compatible in-memory database that delivers microsecond read and single-digit-millisecond write latency with the durability and strong consistency of a primary database — removing the need for customers to run a separate cache and database. It achieves this by storing the entire dataset in memory while persisting changes through a distributed transactional log, giving customers in-memory speed together with data durability, consistency, and recoverability. MemoryDB powers demanding, latency-sensitive workloads at scale for AWS customers worldwide.

This team also owns the durability foundation that now extends beyond MemoryDB into Amazon ElastiCache. ElastiCache is a fully managed caching service for Valkey, Redis, and Memcached delivering microsecond latency at any scale, and it is adding durability options built on the hard-won lessons and core technology from MemoryDB. You will lead engineering for both the MemoryDB service and the shared durability capabilities that bring data durability to ElastiCache — a high-leverage charter at the center of AWS's in-memory data strategy.

We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead this team. This is a people-leadership role for a seasoned manager who can own the technical direction, operational excellence, and delivery of a core AWS database service and its expanding durability charter, while growing and developing a team of software engineers. You will manage a team of ~15 engineers across a range of experience levels, partner with product and principal engineers on multi-year strategy, and be accountable for the availability, durability, and
performance of services that customers trust with their most critical data.

You will own the full lifecycle of your team's software — from design and development through deployment and operations — where correctness, durability, and latency are non-negotiable. If you are energized by distributed systems problems, high-scale operations, and building strong engineering teams, we would like to talk to you.
