Would you like the opportunity to work in a global energy company?
Do you enjoy taking on challenging projects?
Join our innovative Internship Program
The Baker Hughes Internship is designed to enable undergraduate and postgraduate students to gain hands-on work experience as the foundation of their professional lives. For this opportunity, you will join our materials testing laboratory and gain practical experience in materials engineering, metallurgical analysis, laboratory testing and engineering failure investigations.
You'll gain first-hand exposure to how laboratory testing and materials engineering are used to understand material condition, degradation and component performance and to support engineering decisions for industrial equipment.
Partner with the best
Our internship will provide you with the opportunity to become familiar with Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E). You'll participate in technically focused training, team meetings and work on projects and present your results. During your internship you will be supported by a buddy and your manager who will ensure that you have a valuable learning experience.
Role description
As an intern within our materials testing laboratory, you will gain practical experience supporting materials testing, metallurgical analysis and engineering investigations. You will work alongside experienced engineers and laboratory personnel on projects supporting the assessment of materials, components and industrial equipment.
As an intern, you will have an opportunity to:
- Assist with metallurgical analysis and materials characterisation, including sample preparation, microscopy and evaluation of material condition and degradation.
- Support the setup, monitoring and review of creep testing, including preparation of test specimens, test equipment and analysis of test data.
- Assist with accelerated corrosion testing and the evaluation of material performance in representative environments.
- Support condition assessments and failure investigations of components, helping to identify material degradation and potential failure mechanisms.
- Assist with the preparation of technical documentation and engineering reports, clearly recording test methods, observations, results and findings.
- Work with engineers and laboratory personnel to deliver testing and investigation projects for a range of industrial applications.
- Receive coaching and mentoring while developing practical skills in materials engineering, metallurgy, laboratory testing and failure analysis.
- Apply Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) standards and laboratory procedures in all activities.
Fuel your passion
To be successful in this role you will:
- Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials/Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Have an interest in metallurgy, materials testing, material degradation, corrosion and failure analysis.
- Have an interest in developing practical laboratory skills and working hands-on with materials, test specimens and laboratory equipment.
- Be comfortable analysing technical data, documenting observations and contributing to engineering reports.
- Have maintained a GPA grade greater than or equal to 3.0 out of 4.0 (B grade average or higher) or the equivalent in your country.
- Be in your final or penultimate year of degree studies.
- Be fluent in oral and written English.
