The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As an Application Engineer or Application Development Specialist for the Personal Safety Division (PSD), you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Providing technical support to customers, distributors, and the commercial team, contributing to the appropriate recommendation and application of personal protective equipment (PPE) solutions.
- Supporting the promotion of a strong safety culture in the market, with customers and end users, through technical training, educational activities, and guidance on PPE selection, use, limitations, and best practices.
- Conducting product demonstrations, application testing, technical evaluations, and support activities for the PSD portfolio, considering performance requirements, compliance, and suitability for the use environment.
- Contributing to the monitoring of technical standards, regulatory requirements, certifications, and legal trends applicable to the personal safety segment.
- Participating, with guidance, in interactions with technical committees, associations, industry forums, and regulatory discussions, supporting the company’s technical representation in topics relevant to the business.
- Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams such as marketing, quality, manufacturing, regulatory affairs, and sales to support launches, portfolio adaptations, and implementation of technical solutions.
- Supporting the collection of voice of customer (VOC), market insights, and customer needs, helping identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and expansion of the safety portfolio.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Providing technical support to customers and the sales team regarding product application, performance, limitations, and proper use within the PSD portfolio.
- Delivering technical and educational training on PPE, with a focus on worker protection, compliance, and safety awareness.
- Supporting field evaluations, application testing, product validations, and troubleshooting related to personal safety solutions.
- Contributing to the interpretation and communication of technical standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements relevant to the portfolio.
- Supporting the company’s participation in external technical discussions, including committees, working groups, and forums related to the occupational safety ecosystem.
- Working with cross-functional teams to develop technical recommendations, support materials, and market training content.
- Traveling for technical visits, customer training, and business needs as required by the role.
Your Skills and Expertise.
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree completed and verified prior to start in Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Materials Science, or related fields.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in technical support, product application, occupational safety, PPE, regulatory environment, or related areas in a private, public, government, or military environment.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of personal protective equipment, its applications, and technical requirements.
- Familiarity with technical standards, certifications, legal requirements, or regulatory frameworks applicable to occupational safety.
- Experience interacting with customers and cross-functional teams at the operational level and with immediate leadership.
- Advanced English.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Previous experience with technical training, field support, product demonstrations, or end-user education.
- Spanish is a plus depending on business needs.
- Exposure to topics related to safety culture, risk prevention, and worker protection.
- Knowledge of product certification processes, technical compliance, and regulatory updates.
- Previous participation in associations, technical groups, standards committees, or industry discussions is a plus.
- Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills to work under supervision across multiple demands and audiences.
- Availability for business travel (60-70% time)

- Work Location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the main offices in Sumare, SP, Brasil.
- Travel: Include travel to customers, distributors, technical events, and other 3M locations as required by the position.
