Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is building the next generation of cloud infrastructure for a globally distributed, multi-tenant environment.
The OCI Virtual Networking Dataplane team develops and operates the high-performance packet-processing platform behind critical services such as internet gateways, NAT gateways, and dynamic routing gateways. Our systems connect customer resources to Oracle Cloud services and external networks while meeting demanding requirements for availability, performance, security, and scale.
As a Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer, you will independently design and deliver major dataplane features in C and C++. You will work across packet processing, routing, network address translation, network gateways, security policy enforcement, distributed configuration, testing, deployment, and production operations.
You will own features throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing, rollout, observability, and operational support. You will troubleshoot complex Linux and networking problems, participate in the production on-call rotation, and improve the tools and automation used to operate OCI’s virtual networking infrastructure.
This is a hands-on senior software development role for someone who enjoys systems programming, understands how software behaves in production, values simplicity and scale, and wants to solve challenging networking problems in a collaborative environment.
- Design and implement major features in C and C++ for OCI’s high-performance Virtual Networking Dataplane.
- Build packet-processing capabilities for routing, network address translation, network gateways, and security-policy enforcement.
- Contribute to the design of distributed systems that meet requirements for scale, availability, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Optimize CPU utilization, memory usage, concurrency, latency, and throughput for large-scale production environments.
- Develop unit, integration, system, fault-injection, scale, and performance tests to validate system correctness and reliability.
- Build fault-tolerant and recoverable components that can handle failures and software updates without disrupting customers.
- Improve service observability through metrics, alarms, dashboards, telemetry, canaries, and operational health checks.
- Diagnose and resolve complex Linux, networking, and production issues using logs, metrics, packet captures, core dumps, and debugging tools.
- Participate in the production on-call rotation and contribute to incident response, root-cause investigations, and permanent corrective actions.
- Create runbooks, diagnostic tools, and automation that make operational issues easier to detect, troubleshoot, and resolve.
- Apply security and isolation principles appropriate for a multi-tenant cloud environment and contribute to the remediation of identified security risks.
- Support safe change management through automated validation, staged deployment, monitoring, rollback, and recovery procedures.
- Maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code used to build, deploy, and operate the service.
- Own features through design, implementation, testing, deployment, production validation, and ongoing support.
- Plan and track work with minimal supervision, identify risks and dependencies early, and adjust execution as requirements change.
- Collaborate across networking, control-plane, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to deliver shared outcomes.
- Participate in design and code reviews, document technical decisions, and contribute to team knowledge and engineering practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve development, testing, deployment, and operational workflows through better tooling and automation.
Certain U.S. based or U.S. customer or client-facing roles may be required to comply with applicable requirements, such as immunization/occupational health mandates, and/or drug testing requirements.
