Description
The Data Center Technician is responsible for executing and leading physical infrastructure deployments within data center environments, including rack-and-stack activities, structured cabling installations, hardware deployments, and infrastructure support. This role serves as a technical lead onsite, ensuring equipment installations are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and operational requirements.
The Data Center Technician works closely with project managers, network engineers, vendors, and customer stakeholders to support the successful delivery of data center infrastructure projects while providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day data center installation activities and provide technical direction to onsite technicians.
- Perform and oversee rack-and-stack deployments for network, compute, storage, and telecommunications equipment.
- Install and configure racks, cabinets, rails, cable management systems, and associated hardware.
- Deploy and connect network switches, routers, firewalls, servers, storage arrays, and other critical infrastructure devices.
- Install, route, terminate, label, and document copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with industry standards.
- Verify equipment placement and rack elevations using project documentation and design drawings.
- Ensure proper power connectivity, load balancing, and cable management within rack environments.
- Conduct quality control inspections to validate installation accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with customer standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation, cabling, hardware, and connectivity issues during deployment activities.
- Manage punch-list items, remediation efforts, and project closeout tasks.
- Support hardware moves, adds, changes, and decommissioning activities.
- Maintain accurate asset tracking, inventory management, and installation documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, network engineers, and customer stakeholders regarding project status, risks, and issues.
- Ensure adherence to all data center operational procedures, change management requirements, and safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment while promoting a strong safety culture.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data center operations, infrastructure deployment, or critical facilities environments.
- Hands-on experience with rack-and-stack installations in enterprise, colocation, or hyperscale data centers.
- Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, structured cabling, and hardware deployment best practices.
- Experience installing and supporting servers, storage platforms, switches, routers, and other data center equipment.
- Ability to read rack elevations, floor plans, installation guides, and technical drawings.
- Experience with fiber optic and copper cabling installation, labeling, testing, and documentation.
- Familiarity with data center power systems, rack power distribution units, and cable management standards.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in production and deployment environments.
- Ability to work independently while leading small teams and coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale data center buildouts, migrations, or infrastructure refresh projects.
- Knowledge of data center commissioning and turnover processes.
- Familiarity with asset management, ticketing, and infrastructure management systems.
- Experience working in colocation, cloud, enterprise, or mission-critical environments.
- Certifications such as BICSI, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, CDCTP, or equivalent industry credentials.
- Prior experience leading technicians or deployment teams on complex infrastructure projects.

This is a Contract position based out of Barstow, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
