PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for: 1) donor management; 2) resource mobilization; 3) partnership development;
and 4) org growth forecasting and planning. This is a new, dedicated role for the organization and the successful candidate will have the
opportunity to continue to craft and refine the role.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
GRANT MANAGEMENT (PROPOSALS AND REPORTING)
• Manage grant proposal processes including project management, coordination, content production and final consolidation and
review. Provide strategic direction for narrative content and budgets. Take a lead role in negotiating and finalizing grants.
• Ensure fulfilment of all donor requirements. Lead grant reporting including tracking of reporting timelines and coordinating timely
completion of required reports, integrating input from relevant departments as required.
• Manage donor relations including tracking of current and prospective donors, identification of targets and nurturing relationships.
Evaluate use of CRM system.
• Provide strategic guidance and insights related to strategic budgeting for proposals, assisting with budgeting process as required.
• Seek and recommend new grant opportunities and cultivate new relationships.
PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
• Manage, retain and develop relationships with partners and stakeholders.
• Develop partnership strategy, including exploration of licensing and affiliate arrangements. Manage intellectual property matters.
• Role may involve partner scoping visits and due diligence on potential implementing partners.
OPERATIONS, GROWTH STRATEGY AND PLANNING
• Design and implement business development strategy.
• Work with senior management team to set growth strategies and plans for the organization. Set targets and key performance metrics.
• Work with program teams to develop program scale strategies, matching targets and vision with available resources. Mobilize resources where required.
• Provide strategic guidance and insights related to org and program budgeting, assisting with budgeting process as required.
• Engage in cost effectiveness and ROI analysis, using this as a tool for strategic decision making and planning.
• Investigate potential income-generation streams.
• Lead and manage individual-giving programs.
• Work with Communications team to ensure collateral reflects the org and program strengths and is strategic for partnership
development.
The role will require an in-depth knowledge of organization principles and ethos, as well as org programs and expansion plans including
facets of curriculum, training and research. The BD Manager will be required to represent the organization as needed.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and presentation and meeting facilitation skills. Ability to discuss technical and
strategic content in an articulate matter. An eye for visual aesthetic and layouts a plus.
• Strong relationship building skills and experience in an external-facing role such as client service preferred. Donor fundraising or
partnership management experience or experiencing managing donor relations a plus.
• Proven ability to negotiate preferred.
• Collaboration skills required. Must work well individually and as part of a team in leadership and team member roles.
• Ability to work cross-functionally synthesizing information from various sources to formulate and compare alternatives and
recommend a path forward defining required actions and responsibilities.
• Must be able to critically evaluate successes and failures, with a clear eye for analyzing root cause and recommend process
improvements.
• Project management and coordination experience.
• Proficiency with MS Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required.
• Professionalism at all times is of utmost importance. Must be self-motivated.

TIME PERIOD
2-3 year contract, with potential for extension up to 3-5 years pending performance.
