Job Summary:
The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) will provide basic behavioural and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth in a correctional setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 24 continuous months of recent experience in a public or private institution (within the last 3 years).
- Internships not accepted.
- Active and valid California license from the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians.
- Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide psychiatric nursing care and behavioural support to patients/youth.
- Perform daily rounds and monitor individuals with mental illness symptoms.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including injections.
- Record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
- Support the development of treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Lead or assist in individual and group therapy sessions.
- Coordinate clinical appointments and ensure patient attendance.
- Act as liaison with custody staff to manage behavioural issues.
- Respond to emergencies with CPR and first aid support.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation per facility requirements.
- Contribute to a safe and therapeutic environment.
