Travelers is seeking a Circle Lead Engineer (CLE) to join our organization as we grow and transform our Personal Insurance Technology landscape. Individual will complete expert end to end engineering tasks as well as manage and lead the development and work products of software engineers. Individual will also plan and execute at a strategic level, lead and influence resources and outcomes, lead the design, development and implementation of significantly complex, unscoped problems that extend beyond the confines of a team, and establish software engineering best practices and standards.

Partners with and defers to architecture when an architecturally significant change is needed for a design that spans teams.
  • Best Practices and Quality Assurance: Ensures teams are producing systems that meets all non-functional requirements, is well-bounded, composable, and adheres to Software Engineering best practices. Provides feedback to Team Lead Engineers to help them improve their system building skills.
  • Collaboration with Circle Leadership: Works closely with the Circle leaders to ensure the Circle’s mission, vision, and objectives and KPIs are satisfied by the systems being maintained and built by the teams. Provides oversight to ensure capabilities are properly bounded.
  • Estimation and Planning: Participate in increment planning sessions to assist with and provide oversight over the estimation of the technical effort required for implementing features, user stories and tasks. Help the teams, where necessary, break down work into smaller, actionable tasks.
  • Technical Integrations: Own technical interdependencies of systems within the Circle and ensure an adequate interaction model across teams to support these.
  • Problem Solving: Help the Team Lead Engineers overcome technical challenges and roadblocks by offering expertise, brainstorming solutions, and providing support as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the Circle, encouraging experimentation, learning, and the adoption of new technologies and practices.
  • Lead by example, mentor, and coach: Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to quality in all aspects of the work. Mentor Team Lead Engineers, helping them develop their technical skills and grow as engineers and leaders. Provide coaching on topics such as soft skills, coding practices, design patterns, and system architecture
