Senior Consultant, Custom Solutions (Reports to Custom Solutions Leader)

Location: Travel proximity to a Marsh office (U.S.) — hybrid/flexible; travel as required

Position summary: As a Senior Consultant on the Custom Solutions team, you will deliver operational assessments, audits, and tailored claims solutions that drive measurable client outcomes. Working within the Custom Solutions team, you’ll manage engagements or workstreams, execute analyses, produce actionable recommendations, and partner across Marsh to ensure high-quality delivery and client satisfaction. This role combines technical claims expertise, project execution, leadership, and clear communication to translate findings into measurable improvements for client programs.

What will you do?

  • Deliver exceptional work product in formal operational assessments, audits, root-cause analyses, and custom claim improvement projects from scoping through delivery and handoff.

  • Develop clear, client-ready deliverables (reports, presentations, playbooks) that communicate findings, recommendations, and expected impact.

  • Lead workstreams: create project plans, manage timelines, coordinate resources, and ensure quality and compliance with team standards.

  • Validate and confirm the quality and effectiveness of consulting outputs, ensuring recommendations are practical, measurable, and tied to client objectives.

  • Support implementation activities as required (process redesign, KPI definitions, pilot testing, change management support) to help ensure recommendations are realized.

  • Collaborate closely with the broader Claims Consulting Practice to align priorities, escalate risks, and identify opportunities to expand services.

  • Engage with client stakeholders at operational and mid-management levels; present findings and guide decision-making conversations.

  • Contribute to knowledge management: document methodologies, templates, lessons learned, and repeatable approaches to improve team efficiency and quality.

  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of claims lifecycle best practices, market trends, and innovations that could benefit clients.

  • Create and drive thought leadership both internally and externally.

What you need to have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.

  • 3–7 years of consulting, claims operations, or risk management experience, with demonstrated exposure to casualty claims cost containment or total cost of risk initiatives.

  • Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with quantitative and qualitative data to draw conclusions and recommend actions.

  • Proven ability to develop client-facing deliverables (reports, presentations) that are clear, concise, and actionable.

  • Experience managing project tasks and workstreams; ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to present effectively to operational and managerial client audiences.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and comfort working with other business tools and learning systems.

  • Client-first mindset with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Willingness to travel domestically (and internationally occasionally) as client needs require.

  • Ability to work across national time zones and in remote team settings.

Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $112,600 to $239,800.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
