Job Specification
The ideal candidate will hold a recognised welding, fabrication, or engineering qualification and possess proven experience in MIG welding, metal fabrication, and the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty vehicles, trailers, plant machinery, waste handling equipment, and industrial assets.
Key responsibilities include the fabrication, modification, repair, and maintenance of skips, containers, compactors, bins, HGV bodies, trailers, and associated waste management equipment. The successful candidate must be capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications and be skilled in measuring, cutting, fitting, assembling, and welding steel and other metals to a high standard.
The role requires strong knowledge of welding procedures, fabrication methods, structural repairs, and quality control standards. Candidates should have hands-on experience using MIG welding equipment, oxy-acetylene cutting equipment, hand tools, power tools, grinders, and precision measuring instruments.
A sound understanding of workplace health and safety legislation is essential, with the ability to work safely in a busy workshop and operational environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance team to meet operational requirements, production targets, and project deadlines.
Essential Requirements:
Recognized welding and fabrication certified, or engineering qualification.
Proven experience in MIG welding and metal fabrication.
Experience repairing HGV vehicles, trailers, plant machinery, skips, containers, or industrial equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Competent in measuring, cutting, fitting, assembling, and welding metal components.
Knowledge of welding quality standards and inspection requirements.
Strong understanding of health and safety procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Requirements:
Experience within the waste management, recycling, construction, quarrying, or heavy industrial sectors.
Experience with arc welding, TIG welding, or oxy-acetylene cutting equipment.
Forklift, telehandler, or plant operation certification.
Full clean driving licence.
Knowledge of hydraulic systems and vehicle body repairs.
