We are seeking a talented individual to join the Mercer Marsh Benefits division at Marsh. This role will be based in Sandton, hybrid and has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
We are a leading professional services firm advising healthcare funds, corporate clients and trustees on healthcare plan design, provider management, governance and administration. Our Healthcare practice combines deep technical expertise with a client-first approach to deliver compliant, sustainable and commercially sound healthcare solutions.
We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to run our Healthcare Business Unit. This role combines strategic leadership, hands-on client management and commercial responsibility. You will lead a team of Client Executives and consultants, manage a portfolio of institutional and corporate clients, drive retention, revenue growth, and ensure excellent governance and regulatory compliance across all operations.
We will count on you to:
Set and deliver the Healthcare BU strategy with the MMB Africa Leader, translating it into clear objectives, KPIs, quarterly reviews and innovation initiatives aligned to market and regulatory change.
Lead the client portfolio and key accounts to drive retention, growth and profitability through strong governance, account planning, executive reporting and proactive issue/escalation management.
Manage and develop the team of Client Executives and consultants through performance leadership, coaching, capability building (including CPD) and a high-accountability, collaborative culture.
Drive business development across healthcare and employee benefits by building pipelines, leading proposals/tenders/pitches, and maintaining senior relationships with clients, intermediaries and industry stakeholders.
Own commercial and financial performance for the BU, including revenue delivery, forecasting contribution, cost control, pricing/resourcing support and margin protection.
Ensure governance, risk and compliance across operations, maintaining audit readiness, robust controls, and up-to-date regulatory knowledge (including FAIS/FSCA where applicable).
Champion operational excellence by embedding consistent processes, SLAs and quality standards, improving data and service delivery, and leveraging technology/analytics to enhance outcomes and client experience.
What you need to have:
Experience: 12+ years in healthcare consulting, medical scheme advisory, managed care, or benefits consulting, with demonstrated people management experience.
Technical knowledge: deep understanding of healthcare funding models, provider networks, utilisation management and regulatory frameworks.
Regulatory competence: familiarity with medical scheme regulations, FAIS (where applicable) and other relevant healthcare policies.
Commercial mindset: demonstrable experience in client retention, cross-sell and new business generation
Leadership skills: proven ability to lead managers, develop talent, and manage through change.
Communication and influence: Outstanding verbal and written communication, able to influence and negotiate at senior levels.
Analytical: Data driven decision-making and the ability to interpret complex information quickly and accurately
Relevant tertiary qualifications (BCom, BSc, Health Sciences, Public Health or equivalent)
Professional designations or clinical background advantageous
Registration and proven experience of participation of industry forums
FAIS (RE5) accreditation.
