Heavy Industries Senior Risk Engineer, UAE

Location: Dubai / Abu Dhabi, UAE / Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar) (hybrid); travel across GCC and occasional international travel

Reports to: Heavy Industries Senior Risk Engineer.

Role summary: We are seeking a hands-on, technically minded individual with a strong heavy industries engineering pedigree to drive value for Heavy industries clients across the GCC through innovative risk engineering and consulting. The successful candidate will be a technical “heavy hitter” in Heavy Industries engineering who can shift client conversations from transactional surveys to value-adding consulting engagements, expand Property risk consulting penetration into the broking client base, and raise the visibility of our capabilities across heavy industries forums and networks.

Key responsibilities:

  • Client value creation and delivery

    • Lead high-value consulting engineering engagements for mining clients that move beyond transactional surveys to risk-informed, strategic solutions that support clients’ operational and business objectives.

    • Design and deliver risk and underwriting survey and consulting scopes that clearly articulate client value (risk reduction, operational resilience, capital prioritization, insurance optimisation).

    • Translate technical findings into actionable commercial recommendations for clients and broking partners.

  • Business development & growth

    • Support business development by actively looking for expansion opportunities on client book, considering broader risk consulting solutions.

    • Support growth initiatives and consulting engagements in area of expertise.

  • People & capability building

    • Develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and early-career consultants; foster transfer of technical skills and consulting best practices.

    • Create scalable ways of working, standard methodologies, templates and knowledge products to elevate quality and consistency.

  • Collaboration & cross-functional working

    • Work closely with the Heavy Industries Broking Leader, Client Service teams, broking teams, strategy consultants and Marsh’s global heavy industries community to leverage expertise, co-sell services and deliver integrated solutions.

    • Act as the primary technical escalation point for complex client issues and ensure seamless delivery between consulting and broking functions.

  • Thought leadership & external engagement

    • Represent Marsh at conferences, technical forums and client events; publish thought leadership that highlights innovative risk management approaches.

    • Build relationships with key technical influencers, insurers, reinsurers and industry associations to enhance Marsh’s reputation and create referral pathways.

  • Operational accountability

    • Ensure efficient project delivery, margin management, and high client satisfaction.

    • Maintain rigorous risk management and quality assurance on all technical outputs.

  • Project/survey delivery quality and timeliness

  • Growth in PRC penetration across broking Heavy Industries clients

  • Client satisfaction and repeat business rates

  • Team development metrics; successful transfer of skills to early-career colleagues

Qualifications & experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field (required).

  • Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in heavy industries engineering; significant time in operational/technical roles.

  • Proven track record in consulting, technical project delivery or operational leadership on large-scale mining operations.

  • Postgraduate qualification in business, management or related field is advantageous.

  • Experience in insurance, risk management, PRC-style surveys or working with brokers/insurers is highly advantageous.

  • Demonstrable experience leading teams, coaching junior staff and delivering commercial results.

Technical skills & competencies:

  • Deep technical expertise in mine engineering practices, risk assessment methodologies, site survey execution and technical reporting.

  • Strong commercial acumen: ability to build scopes, price consulting work, and manage margins.

  • Excellent client-facing skills: consultative selling, negotiating, and relationship management.

  • Great written and verbal communication; ability to translate complex technical issues into concise business recommendations.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement technical standards, templates and best-practice processes.
