Join us as a Financial Crime Compliance Intern in Milan to help protect Qonto and our customers from financial risks. As part of our Anti-Financial Crime Compliance unit (our 2nd line of defense), you'll keep our anti-financial crime framework robust as our customer base and local scope grow. You will report to Michele Guerrera and Sara Zaccaria, who co-lead our Anti-Financial Crime unit.
Start date: June/July 2026.
➡️ What you'll do
- Investigate complex cases: Analyze escalations from our 1st line of defense — deep-dive into client structures, business models, and financial flows (KYB/KYC, EDD).
- Review client documentation: Assess invoices, contracts, corporate documents, and supporting evidence to verify legitimacy and evaluate risk.
- Detect suspicious patterns: Identify transactions and behaviors that could indicate money laundering, terrorist financing, or fraud.
- Support regulatory reporting: Help consolidate AFC insights for internal stakeholders and support documentation of suspicious activities for potential reporting to the Bank of Italy (UIF).
- Track remediation actions: Maintain clear follow-ups on open items (requests, escalations, deadlines) to ensure timely closure and auditability.
➡️ What we're looking for
- Academic background: You're a Master's student (M2) in Law, Economics, or a related field, with a strong interest in Anti-Financial Crime, Risk, or Money Laundering Prevention.
- Languages: Fluent Italian (mandatory) and English. Another language is a plus.
- Analytical skills: You have a keen eye for detail and can turn documentation and data into clear, well-reasoned conclusions.
- Investigative mindset: You're curious and motivated to dig into complex situations — you don't stop at the surface.
➡️ What we can offer you
- Real investigations from day one: You'll work on the same cases as junior analysts — KYB/KYC, EDD, transaction monitoring. No coffee runs, real AFC work.
- Strong onboarding and mentorship: Close support from the team to ramp up quickly, then increasing autonomy as you grow.
- A career launchpad: After 6 months, you'll have built meaningful expertise in financial crime compliance — a foundation that opens doors in banking, fintech, and regulation.
- Milan team culture: A close-knit team that values time together — team lunches, team events, and a shared commitment to the work.
