Position Title: Substitute School Cleaner / Custodian Location: Huron City Schools / Huron, OH Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call Pay Rate: $14.08/Hour About the Role Dedicated School Staffing is seeking dependable and hardworking Substitute School Cleaners/Custodians to support school facilities teams when regular staff members are not available. This role is important in helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Substitute custodians support daily cleaning responsibilities, light maintenance tasks, and general upkeep of school buildings, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and shared areas. Key Responsibilities Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common spaces Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust assigned areas as needed Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners Assist with cafeteria cleanup, including wiping tables and maintaining floors Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and restocking supplies Set up and break down spaces for school events or activities when required Ensure proper and safe use of cleaning materials and equipment Report maintenance concerns, safety issues, or damages to supervisors Follow district cleaning schedules, procedures, and safety guidelines Work cooperatively with custodial staff and school personnel Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Clean criminal background check required Obtain an Ohio ID account and complete enrollment in the Ohio rapback program Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing, and moving equipment Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness standards Dependability, punctuality, and a professional attitude Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team Adherence to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience Familiarity with cleaning tools, equipment, and safe chemical handling practices Experience working in school or institutional environments What We Offer Flexible scheduling options Opportunities to gain experience in school facilities and operations Pathways to other school-based roles Potential for long-term substitute assignments Options for limited medical benefits Enrollment in the School Employees Retirement System (SERS)
