Position Title: Substitute School Cleaner / Custodian Location: Lakewood City Schools / Lakewood, OH Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call Pay Rate: Starting at $14.39/Hour About the Role Dedicated School Staffing is seeking reliable and hardworking Substitute School Cleaners/Custodians to support school facilities teams when regular staff members are unavailable. This position is essential in helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Substitute custodians perform daily cleaning duties, assist with light maintenance, and support general building upkeep throughout classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and shared spaces. Key Responsibilities Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust assigned areas Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners as needed Assist with cafeteria cleanup, including wiping tables and maintaining floors Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs or restocking supplies Set up and break down rooms for school events or activities when required Ensure proper and safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or damages to supervisors Follow district cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and daily schedules Work collaboratively with custodial staff and school personnel Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Clean criminal background check required Obtain an Ohio ID account and complete enrollment in the Ohio rapback program Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing, and moving equipment Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards Dependability, punctuality, and a professional work ethic Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team Adherence to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience preferred Familiarity with cleaning tools, equipment, and safe chemical handling practices Experience working in school or institutional environments What We Offer Flexible scheduling options Opportunities to gain experience in school facilities operations Pathways to other school-based roles Potential for long-term substitute assignments Options for limited medical benefits Enrollment in the School Employees Retirement System (SERS)
