A Food Service Worker must: 1. Be at least 20 years of age. 2. Have a high school degree or equivalent education. 3. Have at least 2 years of experience in culinary serving. 4. Have a current Safe Serve Certification or obtain one within 90 days of employment 5. Submit to various background checks, including those completed through the Department of Human Services and the Virginia State Police Department 6. Be CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen certified or obtain certification upon hire. 7. Be able to make meals for children who have dietary restrictions. 8. Complete a Tuberculosis (TB) test and physical. Must provide a physician’s documentation of both. 9. Be mentally and physically capable of preparing food for a large group of children. 10. Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences. 11. Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities. 12. Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs. 13. Be available from 6 am to 12 pm M-F. Occasionally, may be asked to stay longer if needed. 14. Have dependable transportation. 15. Have a valid driver’s license. 16. Drive center vehicle(s)/transport/ children/ pick-up groceries when necessary. REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS 1. Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs. 2. Be warm and nurturing with children. 3. Be a positive role model for all caregiving staff and children. 4. Must be customer service oriented and professional with both clients, children, and supervisor(s) 5. Provide excellent customer service according to the standards of Joyful Care Children’s Academy RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Including but not limited to the following: The Food Service Worker is responsible for food safety and preparing meals and snacks. He/she is also responsible for following the kitchen standard operating procedures, licensing procedures, and center policies. Additionally, he/she is responsible for continuing to meet USDA requirements, licensing requirements, and the health department requirements. The Food Service Worker is also responsible for cleaning the kitchen, refrigerator, and all its appliances daily before departure. He/she is responsible for meeting and keeping up with required training and ensuring that they keep their office files up to date (i.e., contact information, emergency points of contact, health forms, shot record up to date). In addition to the above-listed, he/she is responsible for grocery shopping for the center, putting up groceries, ensuring the refrigerator, pantry, and Freezer remain clean and organized (Daily before departure). He/she is also responsible for making the center menus and a supply list and food list; in which the list will be turned into the Director or the Site Manager in the Director's absence, keeping in mind the current stock on hand and future usage. He/she is also responsible for taking attendance for the children during meals and inputting Kidkare information. The Food Service Worker will also be responsible for opening the building, turning lights on, rolling blinds up, and adjusting the temperature if necessary. Occasionally, he/she will cover a classroom if needed, assist teachers in the event of an emergency, prepare chemical bottles for classrooms, and respond to teachers request/needs via walkie-talkie. Finally, he or she is responsible for reporting child abuse or neglect if suspected immediately to the Director/Owner, not in a specific order, Site Manager if assigned. The staff member, if they so choose, shall call the child abuse hotline themselves or the Unit of Child Protective Services after notification of either the Director/Site Manager.
