About Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 12 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

Our mission is clear: reduce violent retail crime by 50% in 5 years. It's an ambitious goal - and one we believe is achievable. In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

We're also embracing the potential of AI to supercharge our impact - whether that's enhancing the way we detect trends, support our customers, or improve internal workflows. As a company, we're committed to responsibly incorporating AI into how we work and what we build, and we encourage all Aurors to be curious about how AI can elevate their work, regardless of role or function.

The Role

Most companies are experimenting with AI. We want to accelerate it, with an exceptional person (that’s you) who gets in the room, understands the real problems to solve, and builds something that actually works.

This is a role for someone who is wired differently. You’re an operator first - you’ve shipped things, run things, solved hard problems in fast-moving environments. But you’re also deeply fluent in AI: you know what’s possible, you know what’s hype, and you know how to close the gap between the two. You don’t just advise. You build, demonstrate, and you bring people with you - building capabilities in others along the way.

At Auror, you’ll be embedded across the organisation - working directly where the work happens - Product, Marketing, Finance, People Experience, Customer Success, Revenue and more. You’ll identify where AI can create the most leverage, design the solution, build it, and make sure it sticks - measuring outcomes and continuously improving the solutions you build.

Auror takes its responsibility seriously - to our customers, our partners, and the communities we serve. That means AI at Auror isn't just about speed or efficiency. It's about using these tools in ways that are transparent, fair, and worthy of the trust people place in us. You'll be the person who holds that line. Not as a blocker, but as a steward - helping Auror move fast and move right, and making sure our AI practices reflect who we are as a company.

If you’re excited by the idea of genuinely shaping how a fast-growing, mission-driven company works at its core - and you want to have a positive impact on every team and individual - this is your role.

Practically, this will involve:

  • Partnering with leaders across every department to identify high-impact AI opportunities - prioritising ruthlessly and moving fast.

  • Building and deploying AI-powered workflows, tools, and automations that tangibly improve how Aurors work - not proof of concepts, real solutions that get adopted.

  • Leading by example: you are the most active AI practitioner at Auror. Others learn by watching you work.

  • Partnering with Information Security to ensure we are aligning to Auror's responsible AI framework and our use of AI is ethical, transparent, and consistent with our principles and obligations internally and externally.

  • Building AI capability across Auror - running enablement sessions that are tailored to the teams, creating practical playbooks, and upskilling teams so the knowledge spreads beyond you.

  • Owning Auror’s Internal AI Adoption strategy in partnership with the CPXO - setting direction, tracking impact, and iterating based on what’s working.

  • Staying close to the frontier - evaluating new tools, models, and approaches and translating what matters for our context.

  • Navigating ambiguity with first-principles thinking - when there’s no playbook, you write it.

This role reports to Kirsti Grant, Chief People Experience Officer.

I have spent the last 18 years working with some of NZ’s most well-known tech companies either as a team member or as an advisor. I started out in recruitment before jumping into the broader People Experience space. I treat PX as a commercial function - not a support one. That means designing for performance and belonging at the same time, building people systems that scale, and making sure the way Auror hires, develops, and retains talent is a genuine competitive advantage.

I am particularly focused on how AI changes the way teams work, including inside PX itself, and am leading the Auror's approach to responsible AI adoption.

I lead with care and accountability in equal measure. High performance and human-centred culture aren't in tension at Auror.

Outside of work, my family leans pretty heavily towards technology, which means dinner conversations and walks tend to involve the latest tools, rabbit holes, and a healthy amount of collective curiosity. I balance that with Pilates, and I take my role as a restaurant recommendation engine very seriously.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who has done the work, and can prove it.

  • You’ve operated in fast-paced, high-growth environments and know how to get things done without a perfect brief.

  • You have deep, hands-on experience with AI tools - LLMs, automation platforms, workflow builders - and you build with them regularly.

  • You think in first principles. When you hit a problem, you break it down to it’s fundamentals before reaching for a solution.

  • You’re a natural enabler. You don’t hoard knowledge - you multiply it. You know how to bring people on a journey, especially those who are sceptical or overwhelmed.

  • You’ve built things: workflows, tools, systems, processes. You have a portfolio, not just a CV.

  • You think about the how as much as the what. You have a point of view on responsible AI - bias, transparency, data privacy, appropriate use - and you've navigated these questions in practice, not just in theory.

  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity and can hold a strategic view while executing in the detail.

  • You demonstrate a strong alignment to our Guiding Principles (you can find these on our Careers page).

Auror is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible application process to all candidates and we are actively working to improve diversity within the tech industry. We celebrate diversity and inclusiveness at Auror, regardless of (but not limited to) race, gender, sexual orientation, family status, religion, ethnicity, national origin, physical disability, veteran status, or age.

If you need adjustments to any part of our recruitment process because of accessibility reasons, please do not hesitate to let us know during the application process. We will work with you to identify adjustments that will allow you to perform at your best.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range: Depending on level of experience, a starting salary of $150,000.

  • Annual bonus: Eligibility for a $3,300 bonus at the end of the financial year if we’ve hit our revenue goals together.

  • Employee share scheme: You’ll own part of a company making a real difference!

  • Flexibility: We are hard-working and outcome focused, but recognise there is more to life than work. We promote a healthy work/life blend.

  • Shorter work weeks (at full pay): Everyone gets Friday afternoons off, so you can start your weekend early, and do more of whatever it is that makes you happy.

  • Health insurance: We prioritise looking after your health by covering 100% of your individual health insurance plan with nib.

  • Focus on mental and physical health: We understand how vital our health is and have policies to support your wellness, including Wellness Days, and up to $750 for expert sessions every year.

  • Family-friendly: We offer comprehensive paid parental leave - 12 weeks for birth parents and 6 weeks for non-birth parents following birth, adoption, or surrogacy, available to all Aurors from day one.

  • Personal growth: We support our team to participate in courses, conferences, or events that will help them develop their skills.

  • Team love: We have regular team lunches and social events where most (if not all) activities are during work hours.
