Position Title: Substitute Paraprofessional Location: Black River Local Schools / Sullivan, OH Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call Pay Rate: $15.00/Hour About the Role Dedicated School Staffing is seeking reliable and compassionate Substitute Paraprofessionals to step in when regular staff are unavailable. This role is key to supporting students and teachers while ensuring a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. Substitute aides assist with classroom instruction, provide individualized student support, and help maintain continuity across both general and special education settings. Key Responsibilities Assist classroom teachers with instruction, classroom activities, and supervision of students Provide one-on-one and small-group support, including students with special needs Carry out accommodations and modifications as directed by the teacher or intervention specialist Support students with daily routines such as organization, transitions, and classroom engagement Supervise students in multiple settings including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival/dismissal Help maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment Follow lesson plans, behavior plans, and all school safety procedures Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, staff, and administrators Document student observations, progress, or incidents as required Required Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent required Valid Ohio educational aide permit or higher teaching license (per state requirements) Clean criminal background checks with no disqualifying offenses Ability to interact with students in a patient, supportive, and professional manner Strong communication and interpersonal skills Flexibility to follow direction and adapt to different classroom environments and student needs Physical ability to assist students when needed (mobility or classroom support tasks) Compliance with the Ohio Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Educators Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with children in educational or childcare settings Experience supporting students with disabilities Training in behavior management, de-escalation, or related strategies What We Offer Flexible, as-needed scheduling Hands-on experience in school-based support roles Opportunities for long-term substitute assignments Potential pathways into additional education-based positions Access to optional basic medical benefits Eligibility for enrollment in the School Employees Retirement System (SERS)
