Position Title: Substitute Paraprofessional Location: Shaker Heights City Schools / Shaker Heights, OH Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call Pay Rate: $128.88/Day About the Role Dedicated School Staffing is seeking reliable and compassionate Substitute Paraprofessionals to step in when regular staff members are unavailable. This position is vital in supporting both students and teachers while helping maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. Substitute aides assist with classroom instruction, provide individualized student support, and ensure continuity of services across general and special education classrooms. Key Responsibilities Support classroom teachers with instruction, classroom activities, and student supervision Provide one-on-one and small-group support, including assistance for students with special needs Implement accommodations and modifications as directed by the teacher or intervention specialist Assist students with daily routines such as organization, transitions, and classroom engagement Supervise students in various settings including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival/dismissal Help promote a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment Follow lesson plans, behavior plans, and established school safety procedures Communicate clearly and professionally with teachers, staff, and administrators Record and report student observations or incidents when required Required Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent required Valid Ohio educational aide permit or higher teaching license (as required by state regulations) Passing background checks with no disqualifying offenses Ability to interact with students in a patient, supportive, and professional manner Strong communication and interpersonal skills Flexibility to follow direction and adapt to various classroom environments and student needs Physical ability to assist students when needed (e.g., mobility or classroom support tasks) Compliance with the Ohio Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Educators Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings Experience supporting students with disabilities Training in behavior management, de-escalation, or related strategies What We Offer Flexible, as-needed scheduling Hands-on experience in educational and student support environments Opportunities for long-term substitute placements Potential pathways into additional school-based roles Optional access to basic medical benefits Eligibility for enrollment in the School Employees Retirement System (SERS)
