Strava is a social fitness platform founded in 2009 by Mark Gainey and Michael Horvath in San Francisco. The company operates a software platform that enables millions of cyclists, runners, swimmers, and endurance athletes to track workouts, share activities, and compete on community-driven leaderboards called segments. Strava generates revenue through a freemium model with Strava+ premium subscriptions offering advanced analytics, training insights, and personalization features. Headquartered in San Francisco with approximately 400 employees globally, the company maintains offices across multiple continents. It has attracted substantial venture capital funding and remains privately held. Strava differentiates itself through its focus on community, its segment-based gamification that drives recurring engagement, and its position as the largest connected fitness platform for endurance sports enthusiasts worldwide.
