Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service founded in 2011 by Katrina Lake. Headquartered in San Francisco, the publicly traded company (IPO November 2017, ticker SFIX) employs approximately 1,400 people. The platform combines algorithmic personalization with professional human stylists to address fashion decision fatigue. Customers build detailed style profiles and receive curated boxes of five items, keeping what they like and returning the rest. Stitch Fix differentiates itself through a unique blend of data science and human judgment: machine learning matches customer preferences and style with inventory while professional stylists provide nuanced curation. The company serves primarily busy professionals seeking convenient, personalized shopping experiences without the time burden of traditional retail. Its sustainable subscription and shipping model has established strong recurring revenue and deep customer relationships.
