7 open roles

Lightmatter is a Boston-based optical computing company founded in 2017 by Yichen Shen to commercialize photonic processor technology for artificial intelligence applications. The company develops photonic integrated circuits that use light-based computation as an alternative to traditional silicon for accelerating machine learning workloads. Lightmatter's hardware approach leverages optical physics to perform matrix multiplications and other operations central to deep learning, aiming to overcome power consumption and speed limitations of conventional electronic processors. Operating as a private, venture-backed startup, Lightmatter competes in the emerging and rapidly growing field of alternative computing architectures designed specifically for AI acceleration and inference.
