Description of Task to be Performed:
AnaVation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our Cross Domain Engineering Team supporting mission-critical programs within the federal government. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in systems design, network infrastructure, and cloud automation—combining hands-on technical proficiency with strategic leadership. This role involves architecting, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available systems across multiple environments, including AWS and on-premises platforms, to enable critical data exchange and operational continuity across domains.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Architect, develop and support a for a highly available resource utilized FBI-wide for mission-critical programs composed of numerous AWS services and on-premises servers across multiple locations.
- Automation and Cloud Integration: Automate the creation and management of AWS resources using AWS CloudFormation, AWS Lambda, GitLab, BASH, and Python scripting.
- Infrastructure Lifecycle Automation: Design and implement an automated, hands-free monthly server rebuild and switchover process leveraging CloudFormation, Lambda, and EventBridge.
- Linux Automation and Monitoring: Develop and maintain a comprehensive system of scripts and processes to automate configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of UNIX systems supporting essential FBI services.
- Maintain network hardware and server infrastructure, including analysis, configuration, installation, and testing of new hardware and software.
- Support daily network operations, evaluating utilization, monitoring response times, and detecting and resolving operational problems.
- Troubleshoot issues at both the physical and logical levels of the network, using diagnostic tools and communication protocol analysis.
- Participate in planning, design, technical reviews, and implementation of network and infrastructure projects supporting voice and data communications.
- Maintain and enhance network infrastructure standards, including TCP/IP communication protocols, and ensure adherence to industry and security best practices.
- Exhibit proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware, AWS, etc.) and network administration, ensuring high system availability and scalability.
- Provide technical consultation, mentorship, and training to IT personnel designated by the government.
- Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and communication problems affecting production systems.
- Manage patching, certification, and accreditation tasks, ensuring compliance with approved baselines and government standards.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quick Reference Guides to support continuity and knowledge transfer.
- Serve as a technical advisor for system and database design, development, and procurement, recommending solutions for performance, security, and scalability.
- Set and maintain standards for client/server database architecture, ensuring consistent implementation across enterprise environments.
This position requires a Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to obtain CI Poly.
This position is on-site in Vienna VA with no remote option.
