US Features Assistant Editor

Position: Full Time/permanent
Salary: $110,000 - $130,000 depending on experience
About the role
We are looking for a dynamic candidate to join the Daily Mail’s growing Features desk in our New York office as Assistant Editor.
The successful candidate will have at least four to five years of newsroom experience working at a newspaper, news website, magazine or television news show. Ideally you will be comfortable writing as well as editing as the role is varied, and some degree of flexibility is a plus.
This is an in-office position and a 9-hour shift Monday to Friday, but applicants must be willing to work flexible hours and shifts as news arises.
Main Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Pitching feature ideas daily
- Composing briefs for feature writers
- Editing under tight deadlines
- Restructuring articles
- Researching article ideas
- Fact-checking drafts of feature articles
- Legalling articles and working on sourcing with reporters.
- Working with photo editors to create images to illustrate articles
- Building articles in a content management system
- Processing contributor payments
- Familiarity with online research tools is essential
