Cumbrian Water is seeking a talented and dedicated Software Engineer to join its collaborative team in creating innovative and impactful solutions for its customers and internal stakeholders.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining both front-end and back-end components of our software applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver high-quality software that supports the company’s mission to provide sustainable and efficient water services across the region.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions across the full stack, using modern technologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate user requirements and design specifications into functional software.
  • Ensure the performance, reliability, and maintainability of our software applications by actively participating in code reviews, writing unit and integration tests, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our software development processes and tools by staying up to date with industry trends and sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Actively engage in an inclusive and supportive team culture, fostering collaboration and effective communication across all team members.
  • Support the professional growth and development of fellow team members by providing constructive feedback, mentoring, and sharing technical expertise.
  • Participate in agile development practices, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent Level 6 qualification under the UK National Qualifications Framework)
  • Strong programming skills in JavaScript (React.js), Python, and SQL
  • Experience with software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
