Mobile Field Engineer (Temporary)

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled Mobile Field Engineer to join Cumbrian Water on a temporary basis.

This role involves travelling across the Cumbria region to maintain, inspect, and repair water infrastructure and equipment. You’ll be responsible for ensuring operational reliability, responding to service issues, and supporting the delivery of safe and sustainable water services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field and have a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Conducting routine inspections and maintenance of water treatment and distribution equipment
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
  • Responding to emergency call-outs and service disruptions across the network
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company procedures
  • Recording maintenance activities and updating asset management systems
  • Liaising with control centre teams and other field engineers to coordinate work
  • Supporting installation and commissioning of new equipment or upgrades
  • Providing technical feedback to improve operational efficiency and reliability

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Full, clean UK driving licence (essential for mobile field work)
  • Experience working in utilities, facilities maintenance, or industrial engineering environments
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes and infrastructure (desirable)
  • Confined space and water hygiene training (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or on-call shifts
